Wild Summer – Focus on Osprey’s, Gannets & Red Squirrels in purple heather.
15th – 18th August 2021.
This wild summer trip will focus on three species, the principal one being the Ospreys. Over the course of the first three days we will have 3 early morning sessions and 3 late afternoon/evening sessions in the osprey hides. Having these magnificent birds dive and plunge into the water only a few metres away is a heart pounding enthralling moment that you won’t forget in a hurry.
Once we finish in the Osprey hide on each of the first 3 mornings there will be a short break for some breakfast and then we will visit the squirrel hide to photograph the red squirrels amongst the blooming purple heather. Without doubt this is one of the most colourful peak times to photograph them. With the purple heather and the red of the squirrels it gives a unique mix of colours to your images.
Day four will see a further visit to the red squirrel hide. After spending the morning with them we will then head across to the east coast to the gannet colony where we will spend the rest of the day and into to the evening. Gannets are such wonderful sleek looking birds and offer some great opportunities from striking portraits, behaviour and flight shots to name just a few.
Days 1-2 & 3 will consist of an early morning osprey hide session starting approximately 5am till 9am. After a quick breakfast break there will be a session with the red squirrels in the purple heather which will take us through until lunchtime. We will then return to the Osprey hides for the afternoon/ evening sessions which will last approximately from 4pm till 8pm.
Day 4 will begin with a further visit to the red squirrel hide where we will spend the morning with them. After lunch we will make the journey to the east coast to the Gannet colony arriving mid-afternoon where we will spend the remainder of the day and into the later evening before heading home after sunset.
