Join myself and Lisa Naylor, my co-guide, for the week on the wonderful Isle of Mull. This trip is now in its 6th year and continues to be a firm favourite with guests, many returning for a second time such is the appeal of Mull and its abundant wildlife.
During the week long trip one of the many highlights will be an extended trip to the island of Lunga in the Treshnish Isles. This stunning little island is a seabird spectacular with Shags, Razorbills, Guillemots, Kittiwakes and of course everyone’s favourite Puffins, thousands of them. Normal boat trips only stay max 2 hours on island, our stay will be extended well beyond that and into the late summer evening allowing 6 hours plus photographing time.
Mull is renowned for its population of White Tailed Sea Eagles so to give our guests the best possible chance to see and photograph these huge impressive birds we will charter our own boat which will only have our own group on board giving plenty space for everyone to enjoy this experience.
Through out rest of time we will explore various other parts of the island in search of a variety of species, our main targets being otters, red deer, waders like common sandpiper and snipe, herons and many enchanting small bird like stonechats and meadow pipits. Of course will always be on look out for the likes of Hen Harriers and Short Eared Owls that we do come across also. These excursions out the group will be split into two allowing more space in vehicles and better chances when encounter wildlife. Mull is an extremely scenic island so of course any landscape opportunities will nor be overlooked either. Each small group will rotate between myself and Lisa so equal amount time will be spent with each of us.
The tour will begin on the Friday evening over dinner and full photography days will start on the Saturday through to the late evening on the Wednesday night. Thursday will be a free day to explore the island at your leisure to do tourist excursions or organise another boat trip of your own choosing. Days are very long at this time year allowing photography up 9-30pm and later. So to ensure we do not burn ourselves out on the non boat trip days we will take a few hours down time in the middle part of the day to relax and recharge batteries.
Our accommodation is of a very high standard in a large country house situated at the head of one of Mull’s most scenic sea lochs Loch na Keal. Each guest will have their own private ensuite room (no sharing). With group size only being 6 guests and many occasions these being split in three’s you can be assured of almost 1-1 attention from myself and Lisa who will do our utmost to make this trip a memorable one for you.
All the images you see in slide show above were taken by myself and Lisa during the Wild Mull 2016 trip . Snipe , common sandpiper and Mull moody landscape are by Lisa.
